The purpose of the present project is to establish a process which makes the high quality bio-diesel and to demonstrate its availability for commercial base high quality bio-diesel fuel in order to contribute to the low carbon fuel society.

In more detail, the present project will develop an highly efficient catalytic process where non-food fats such as waste cooking oil is converted to high quality diesel fuel by contacting with solid catalyst in either gas phase and liquid phase. The product oil will be the mixture of small amount of hydrocarbon gas and liquid hydrocarbons with boiling point of middle distillate. It will promise to support the popularization of a new type diesel fuel which can be used as any types of blend, differently from FAME.

Feature of HiBD Process

The present process makes middle distillates containing branched aliphatics by the contact of fats with heated solid catalysts under atmospheric pressure. The process is simple and easy in operation which is composed of heater, reactor and separator. The product is composed of small amount of hydrocarbon gas. CO and CO2, water and hydrocarbon oil(C10 - C20).

Because of the simplicity of the process and the mild reaction conditions, the process is expected to be constructed and operated with low cost even with the small scale plant. Also, the process supply a bio-diesel, which can contribute to one of the promising method which construct the low-carbon modern society by combining the effective recovery system of waste cooking oil. The process may also contribute to countries where the nation will develop renewable energy resources for the transportation system by the bilateral cooperation including our country.

The establishment of carbon credit could reach the CDM system through the cooperation of both governments.
